Fish Blessing
I went to the river on a sacred day
Seated myself on
green grass
Looked down into the still, brown-green water.
I saw one, at first:
Small, fleet
Spotted fish
Salmon smolt
Moving in the light.
And then more
and then they unfolded
subtle as the patterns in a tapestry
revealing themselves,
living, moving, whole
to a still and seeing
receptive eye
as blessings. As benedictions.
