Jezebel Jackel---1999 - 2011

My beloved wolf-husky Jez passed yesterday, most likely of liver failure, possibly from the rupture of an abdominal tumor. Jez was an animal of tremendous subtlety, intelligence, loyalty and beauty, a precious friend from the morning of her birth to the morning of her passage, and the last of a bloodline of wolfdogs who were my companions for over 20 years. She faced the end of her life as she had lived it, with elegance, courage and splendor. My sorrow and my gratitude are impossible to fully express. I owe so much of what I appreciate in my own character to Jezzie and her family, and I will miss them all, always.

I grieve for your grief, of course, but I am a little awed at how deeply I will miss Jezebel. Last of her lineage, wolf-hybrid raised among wolf-hybrids, and raised well -- she was a rare and beautiful animal. Complex and quirky. Powerfully clear in her ability to communicate with people, but content with what she got out of life. She was amazing. I am profoundly sorry for the loss of her, and the loss of what she represented to you.

I was lucky to know her. She touched my life in small and subtle ways, perhaps, but the imprint is one that will last.

Such a beautiful dog! I don't have the words right now, but I'm sorry she had to go. I've only had one dog, who I lost after 13 years, so I know it's hard.

Sorry to hear about this. However, it has always seemed to me that any elderly creature that peacefully passes away in her den, surrounded by the scent of her pack, has lived a good life.
