"A woman and her dogs, enjoying a morning in town"

is what one of several old friends who I ran into in Sebastopol this morning said of us.

I don't usually get very good photos from the dog park, but I ended up with some cool ones from this morning. I am really happy with this one, which says everything there is to say about the developing relationship between Coba and Zhava.

A beautifully lit and composed photograph of two striking, well groomed dogs, one of whom is sniffing the other's butt.

This lovely pup is a bit younger than Zhava, a 3/4 greyhound, 1/4 borzoi. They have met before, but Zhava showed him a sliver of tooth and he stayed completely away from her.

This time, they stalked each other a little and engaged in the borzoi stare a bit, but did not engage in running.

Bunch of dogs in the sun.

Her coat is so soft and nice, and it is definitely sprouting. I was delighted to find last night that she had enough tail to fluff out into the beginnings of a borzoi plume. She wasn't so thrilled by the extra grooming, but she gets no say.

I will be very curious about her coat---her mom's is quite dense and thick, but on the breed's short and curly end of the spectrum. Her sire's coat is longer and more of a gentle wave. Either way, grooming it will be lots of fun and certainly has been so far!

Zhava is just beginning to consent to play with dogs who are not part of her pack. So far these have mostly been smallish and unthreatening individuals; eventually, she'll gain the confidence to run with something whose abilities are more evenly matched with her own (I hope).
