Tidepooling...
Jun. 1st, 2006 09:40 pmFirst of all, thank you everyone who wished me a happy 30th. It means a lot. =)
I'm a little disconcerted by thirty. I'm not exactly where I hoped I'd be, or as optimistic as once I was. On the other hand, I have quite a lot in my life that is truly wonderful and for which I am profoundly grateful.
BayCon was awesome; all of you who I saw there, it was great to see you. I went there feeling tremendously antisocial (I just get that way) but actually had a great weekend seeing so many friends, many of whom I only see at Baycon. A high point was watching Brociliande and then Leslie Fish in concert (both incredible performances!) with
baxil and
aris_tgd sitting between Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle, the con's guests of honor. So cool. It was a great time. I only regret that I wasn't able to meet up with
kiohl...darn it, we never get a chance to sit down and talk 'n sketch. Some time.
So yesterday (start of the third decade of Jackel upon this beautiful Earth) I went to the beach with the dogs. (Big surprise there, huh?) I noticed right away that it was stunningly low tide, so after looking at all the tide
pools at the beach I most often frequent, I went to another that is rockier. I there had some of the best tidepooling I've ever had in my life...which has included a lot of tidepooling. Later
lythir told me that she had read that it was an unusually low tide, so it wasn't just that I'd gotten there at the right time. Since most of you are not blessed with close proximity to the northern CA coast, I thought I'd share pictures.
We started out with a romp on the beach. All 4 dogs in the frame, that is hard to get.

( A LOT more pics behind the cut )
