This Place/vernal pool on Willow Creek Ridge

This place does not need a statue.
It does not need a marker, this unmarked depression on an empty slope, a little greener,
where water was
from the lack of silvered last year's grasses.
It needs no human hand to tell it what it is.

This ring of bright new grass,
surrounding a half-buried crumbling stone,
its thick, wet moss in all the shades of vivid green.
There are two coyote scats,
(did she rest here? Did she lay her thin long face on slim, untiring paws?
Was this a singing place?)
tufts of gray fur, full of tiny bones.

Was that taken today? I really regretted not taking the camera on my dog walk this afternoon. It was beautiful :)

Yes, they were. My goodness but yesterday was beautiful! This was out in Willow Creek SP, out between Occidental and Duncan's Mills.

I'll have to check that area out at some point. I'm working 7 day weeks at the moment, so I've been walking the redwoods by my house - but I need to find more of these great dog walk spots!

I'd still love to meet up and say hi over a beer at some point, maybe one evening if you have the time. I'm by the Hacienda bridge in Forestville. My schedule is sketchy, but not impossible.

That would be great! Forestville isn't at all far from me, and Willow Creek is very close to you.

Words and image are, alike, really beautiful.

Thank you! The words came to me at this little just-dried vernal pool sitting on a hillside. It didn't seem a picture would get what I saw, so I didn't take one, just remembered the words. The picture I posted is the view from the place just after the moment the words came.
