Weather! And pretty pictures

The weather has been gorgeous this week, sunny and springy and lovely. Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] howl_at_the_sun and her dog came to visit, and we walked up to the ridge. There, we found an amazing three scorpions and a rubber boa, as well as several salamanders and a little guy who might have been a baby gopher snake. Squee!

The 3 or so weeks before that saw some very exciting spring storms that brought trees down on all the lines that bring electricity and the like into my town, so my power and phone have been sporadic.

There are pictures.

The boa! I am so excited when I get to see one.

This scorpion was in the middle (literally) of eating a centipede. Now I like them even more.

And now back in time a couple weeks, to storm-ravaged Camp Meeker!

Mhrhrrr! Nice storm, that! Troublesome, as they tend to be, but... wow. Nice.

That is a -gorgeous- looking area... makes me long for those big tall trees, and the wet air that lingers around them.

It looks so green there! What are temperatures like in winter and summer?

We had the same storm destruction over our way, thankfully my house also avoided any damage.

I'd still love to meet up with you for beers and a hike. This year I have been to the UK, The Virgin Islands, New Hampshire, New York, Orlando and China (and back to CA between each one) ... and it's only just April. Been busy, but it looks like I'm home for at least the next 3 weeks if you wanted to get together. :)

My mom said the Russian River is the highest she's ever seen it. She was afraid her place was going to flood. I guess it was right up on her back door. That storm looks like it was a nasty one!

Hm.
I miss the northern coastal highlands.

My grandfather used to pile us into the car once in a while and drive from Anderson to Eureka for a day trip to have dinner at one of the seafood eateries or steakhouses.
3 hour drive each way across the Trinity Alps.

Good memories.
