Send outs!

I am trying to explain the "send out" concept to Coba again; he seems more ready to learn it than he was last year and we are getting closer to the point where I need him to know it in order to teach other things. The goal is a dog who moves away from the handler in the direction indicated and then waits for further instruction.

What I need is a command for it. It needs to be shortish, easy to say and not overly similar to anything else I regularly say to the dogs. I've introduced it as "send," but as Coba doesn't understand yet, it isn't too soon to change it. "out there" is tempting but too confusing, since I've used "out" to make dogs leave my presence or the house and of course I don't want him to think I'm punishing him or angry.

In the ideal world, I would like something cute, interesting or clever. Anyone have a better sendout command than "send?"

Go away!
Flee!
Vamoose!

Um. That's just off the top of my head. :)

I really love 'flee!' I wouldn't want people to think I was telling my dog to 'flea' instead, alas.

Sometimes I tell my dogs to go away if they are snouting me and I'm doing something else, so that won't work, and I don't thing 'Vamoose' trips off my tongue easily enough. I appreciate the suggestions, though...perhaps I can find a synonym for 'flee'...

I love the thesaurus:

Dash
Skedaddle
Bolt
Split
Fly

Hee! The thesaurus is delightful. "Split" is on my maybe list, as is "leave". I'm not convinced I like them better than "send." I am picky! I guess that's ok, because whatever I choose now is probably what I will be using to train dogs with for a long time.

[identity profile] summer-jackel.livejournal.com 2011-04-12 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I can't use Split. Too close to Sit. "There"? (I point in a direction, say "there" and the dog goes. That could be cool?

Zoom zoom! Wait... that's Bolt.

It would be hilarious if you used something completely random and nonsensical, like 'trout' or 'hammer'. But that's just me. XD

Haha, I was thinking: pew pew!

"Free Bajor" was my release command when I was 16. Thankfully I'm no longer _that_ geeky. Or maybe I just hide it better?

I kind of want to name a dog "Trout" some day. My collies, Trout and Lizard?

[identity profile] summer-jackel.livejournal.com 2011-04-12 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
(my current release command is "go run").

Hah, that's genius :)

In the vein of silliness, "garn" (go on) or "git." But that may be a bit too Southern.

[identity profile] bloolark.livejournal.com 2011-04-12 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I dig 'git', but it may be too close to sit if that's the command she uses for that.

[identity profile] summer-jackel.livejournal.com 2011-04-12 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I use "sit" and I tell them to "get" when I want them to leave sometimes. They know the difference, but I need something really distinct for the sendout.

fly
move
away
move away
slash
break
part
cut
and my favorite, divvy (as in divvy up)

Frolic! Cavort! :P

I like "go" -- it's not creative or clever, but it's an accurate one-syllable description of what I want to the dog to do. I'm not fond of "away" or "leave" because I tend to randomly say those words at dogs when I want them out of my face.

[identity profile] stoda.livejournal.com 2011-04-12 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh! Dangit, she beat me to it. I'd use "Go", too. Short, sharp, clear... and easily followed by further commands.

[identity profile] howl-at-the-sun.livejournal.com 2011-04-12 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"Shoo."

[identity profile] lyosha.livejournal.com 2011-04-13 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
I would use 'range'.

[identity profile] jaelyn.livejournal.com 2011-04-13 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
GET THEE GONE! ..... I kid.

I like "off with you" but that's probably too long for what you're looking for. :)
