Oh, definitely.

The odds that Forge shows up with a big gun (a big gun that conveniently blows holes in walls) just in time are too slim.

And the only people who knew Mystique was coming were Steinbeck and Shepard - obviously they didn't want her to fail.

So Mystique told Forge enough to convince him, and he not only provided her an alibi for failure, but also enabled her to escape at "subsonic speed" and disappear from Shepard's radar.

I have to assume Forge told Xavier, and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Logan knew as well. Of course Mystique probably told Forge that Shepard is able to watch her pretty closely, so anything said to her aloud could be for the baddies' benefit. Otherwise, Shortpack would get snuffed immediately.

But Rogue - I think Rogue believes it was a failed assassination. I HOPE she does, actually. That way, when she finds out the truth, she'll feel guilty about what she told Mystique, and she'll be more inclined to give her another chance after all.

God. The whole scene between Rogue and Mystique was SO reminiscent of Demona and Angela at the end of The Reckoning.

Of course, I've been saying from the beginning of QUIET that Prudence would be a big part of this storyline. When a storyline begins with someone reminiscing about someone who was SO good and SO pure, tragically cut down doing her duty - you just KNOW something will happen to sully the image. My feeling, since the Steinbeck discovery, is that Prudence was not killed, but was in fact trapped inside of Steinbeck's body (since her power involved being able to do something like that). Which is why Shepard is so "beloved" with "him". Her life ruined, she conceived a hatred for her handler and Xavier himself. (Gee, maybe Shortpack will get off Raven's back now that Prudence isn't such a monument to the job.)

If I'm right, this is the kind of story Alexandria would write. Xavier used me, he destroyed my life, and now he has to die.

Yeah, Mystique being cancelled sucks. I'm abandoning Marvel for good after this. Bastards.

Sincerely, Allaine
