Interview meme, which I obtained from talyn_greywolf...
hmmmmmmmmmmmm
this could be a touch interesting, I think that I shall spread it. Here goes:
Here's how it works:
1. Leave me a comment saying, “Interview me.”
2. I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
3. You will update your blog/site with the answers to the questions and leave the answers as comments on my blog.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.
yipyipyipyipyiypiyip yip!

All right.
Interview me.
Sincerely, Allaine
Why certainly!
1. Are you ever going to finish that way keen western Mystique fic you started? How 'bout an update? (yeah, objection for compound question ;)
2. What is your favorite genre of music?
3. Beyond karioke, do you sing?
4. Are you working on a Gathering anthology story?
5. Are you currently in love? (can be a yes/no, detailed answer, or keep your snippy nosy little jackal muzzle to yourself).
Re: Why certainly!
The Mystique western . . . oy. The current chapter, I have just slammed into a wall. I know what the next scene is - I've just tried writing it two different ways, and both of them just slowed down, then braked, then stopped. I do want SO to get more of it done for several reasons - not the least of which is that the entire project was conceived as a gift for Alexandria. So I view the lack of progress as a personal failure of mine, since I consider Alexandria to be one of my dearest friends, and I hope she does not see this as a signal that she has a lower priority for me than my other stories. Alex, if you're reading this, I swear to God, this is going to be finished. You have my word.
2. What is your favorite genre of music?
These are more niches than genres, but I would say it's a toss-up between classic rock and 80s music. Most of my CD purchases over the past few years have been compilation albums by various rock bands that were big in the 70s and 80s; I hear 80s pop music on the radio so infrequently that it has a special appeal for me when it DOES come on.
3. Beyond karioke, do you sing?
I've never really had any other opportunities, so no. I sing in the car, I sometimes sing under my breath when I'm working. But I don't sing on stage or anything like that.
4. Are you working on a Gathering anthology story?
Not right now, but I have an idea and I am very well aware of the deadline. It WILL get done.
5. Are you currently in love? (can be a yes/no, detailed answer, or keep your snippy nosy little jackal muzzle to yourself).
Ooooh. I've been pondering how to answer this question since I saw it the other day. Well . . . I can't exactly give you a definitive answer, other than "I don't know". Maybe if you and I were chatting or talking on the phone, I could take half an hour to go into great detail. Or maybe I couldn't. There are "elements" that are quite private, and I don't know if I can share them with other people. And there are complications too. There will come a time later where I can give you a better answer than that, and if you want to send me a private email, I can go into a little detail about why that is, but right now I'll say that I'm not equipped to give you a sure answer.

*dangles the lure*
1. How large is your tank, and do you have it yet?
2. What sort of fish or other denizens are you planning/have you added to it?
3. Whence Baxil the dragon...how long has he been with you, and how did you develop his character design? (objection; compound question. ;)
4. How did you decide to pursue journalism?
5. When did you start dancing?
Better late than never!
(1) The tank is 46 gallons, with a bow front even. It arrived last month, we spent several weeks trying to put together its inanimate contents and buy all of the necessary accessories, and the first feesh entered the water right about tax day. It only took about two and a half months to actually get it running after winning it from work. (There were delays getting the feesh store to order it from backstock, then delays finding a way to get it from the store to our house, then finding a place to set it up ...)
(2) After careful study,
(3) I don't consider Baxil to be a separate entity. As for how long - the name was given by a dear friend and girlfriend in high school, around the same time period my way of thinking coalesced into "I believe I am a dragon in spirit," so it's now been slightly over a decade. "Character design," insofar as the physical representation goes, began with a past-life regression, and was refined through introspection (and one or two arbitrary choices) as I noticed certain elements kept flip-flopping in my drawings or seemed out of place. The dragon that people have come to visually associate with Baxil is an amalgam of my appearance in my most recent past life and what seems to be a "default," comfortable spiritual appearance, but over time it and I have both grown into each other.
(4) Pretty much purely an accident of history. I like writing and I'm a good editor. In college, I noticed an ad in UC Santa Barbara's Daily Nexus seeking copy editors, and I figured volunteering for the student paper would be a good excuse to get out of the dorms once in a while and hone my wordsmithery. Only after I was hired (and handed my first paycheck!) did I realize that, in fact, it was a paying position. Of course, turnover at college papers is pretty high, and I quickly became assistant copy editor ... then copy editor ... and then won a statewide award ... and it was all sort of downhill from there.
(5) I will admit, without shame or self-consciousness, that my journey to the dance floor began with Dance Dance Revolution. No! Really! I've always had a decent sense of rhythm, but there's a tremendous self-consciousness involved in showing off your moves for an audience. Starting to play DDR helped rewire my mind to put the feet on autopilot, confident in the sort of muscle memory that comes from dashing through a series of blazingly fast arrows. And it really is an incredible teaching aid if you persist through the difficulty levels -- in order to proceed past the medium-difficulty plateau to top-level play, you have to be comfortable with body twists, spins, and going through sequences of steps with your eyes off the screen. From there, you're only one epiphany away from "Hey, I could do this without a screen, too!" and then from there to escaping the confines of the four arrows and taking over a floor.
Thanks for the awesome questions! Off to post this. :)

'Kay! I will!
2. Is there a specific era/type that you collect? Why?
3. Your character, Pelzette...is she your only recurrant char, or just your major one? Is she a 'fursona'?
4. How long does it take you to finish a piece, on average?
5. About that art trade...what do you want me to draw? ;D (This can be given privately, in which case, alternately...) In terms of BDSM/kink art, is there a single subject that is either one of/your favorite, or that you'd like to see more?
Re: 'Kay! I will!
For my own personal collecting, it started sometime in the mid-1990s, 1993 or 1994, IIRC. There have always been weapons in my life, either belonging to my father or his father. But my first purchase was a 1944 Japanese Type 14 8mm automatic pistol, bought from a pawn shop in Covington, LA. It must have been a "vet bringback" from the war as the firing pin was cut. It also wasn't in great shape, with the bamboo grips being broken. I still have it and have always been meaning to restore it, but, I never get around to it. My second purchase was a Sundance Industries .25cal. automatic pistol sometime around 1995, which I used to carry for personal defense. Though, given the low quality of that thing, one shot would have been all I'd get. It wasn't until I got started in reenacting in 2001 did I purchase a weapon again, this time a 1943 dated German Mauser k98 bolt-action rifle. A year later, I picked up a Chinese manufactured Mauser "Broomhandle" pistol (which has been an endless source of problems). Earlier this year, I obtained a German MP44 "assault" rifle (with a solid receiver since I can't afford the $10,000+ for a functional one) and by the close of this month, I should have a German MG34 machinegun, also with a solid receiver.
2. Is there a specific era/type that you collect? Why?
I've always been interested in military technology as a kid and it stuck around. At some point, I began to settle on the years of 1914 through the 1950s. The Great War was one of rapid military technological innovation, from the introduction of tanks, mobile warfare techniques (which didn't grow until 1918), aircraft as a weapon of war, and much more. However, World War Two, specifically German military technology, is of far more interest. The depth of the research is astounding and my interest in post-World War Two is due to the spoils of war taken by the Allies and how it effected the military equipment into the 1950s (and even today). My reenacting German WW2 extends from this interest. My collection focuses mainly on equipment, uniforms, personal effects, and the like. I do have some British and American items, but not in the size of my German collection.
3. Your character, Pelzette...is she your only recurrent char, or just your major one? Is she a 'fursona'?
Interesting question. Pelzette was a creation born of the IRC (Internet Relay Chat). Pelzette was a online "fursona" for a number of years but hasn't been for sometime. I think I first drew hir in 1994 and since then, shey underwent a cosmetic change. Shey was, in some ways, an embodiment of some aspects of my being. These days, I no longer utilize the nick on IRC, using Pelzig instead. Pelzette is not my only recurring character. I have Nadya "Snowi" Dimitrieva (who was a Cyberpunk 2020 character for a number of years), Clone 7350 (who is a replicant of Pelzette in hir original form), and myself as a "fursona". Hard to say who I have drawn more often, but I think Nadya edges out Pelzette. Pelzette, however, has been drawn by other people more than Nadya has.
Re: 'Kay! I will!
Had you asked me this a few years ago, I'd say I could finish a piece in several hours. I was very prolific from 1993 through 1996-97. Then, I guess I got burned out. Now, with the other interests in my life, it takes far longer to complete a picture. If I put my mind to it, I can still finish a inked picture in a few hours, but, on a more usual basis, it could take a few days of inking, doing something else, inking, etc. and so on. Coloring is the same way. I did take a different move to shorten the ink time and that was moving away from a 10"X15" work area (comic standard) to a smaller work area, about 8"X11" or so.
5)In terms of BDSM/kink art, is there a single subject that is either one of/your favorite, or that you'd like to see more?
One interesting aspect to this question is that much of the BDSM and fetish work I've done is actually commissioned works of art from other people. This was true from 1995 to pretty recently. There is a combination of things which, when left to my own devices, I will often combine into my fetish art. These things are; lingerie, hosiery, and bondage. If one reviews my erotic artwork, you'll see these common fetishes either by themselves or in combination. Given that these are such common ones, you see them, especially bondage, in the anthropomorphic art circles. But, I like to look for the "believability" of the restraint. Is the work done by someone who just looks at some magazines or websites and _thinks_ they understand how bondage works or is it drawn by someone who _knows_ what it is about and participates in it as a real life passion. Someone can be spot-on with the gear but the pose and position just look wrong. Then you have the bondage illustration in which the restraint is a mere afterthought. I strive for a level of realism in my own work, mainly since I understand what it is I'm illustrating.
