My favorite rejections slip, ever...
Jul. 1st, 2004 07:58 pmSo, I sent a couple of furry pics off to Radio Comix some months ago, submission to Genus or Anubis: dark desires. I got the rejection slip today, but you have to love the note they gave me on the form rejection:
"Submission contains themes we cannot publish: too close in appearance to bestiality. the characters are slightly *too* animal-oriented---the current comic industry climate is getting stricter about such things. I'll be keeping the pieces on file until the anti-porn sentiment cools down a bit, and we won't be under so much scrutiny."
I had to laugh at this. These pics were my pretty standard furry fare...an Anubis jackal with a side striped jackal 'morph and one of a coyote 'morph...no nonmorphic chars anywhere. Bestiality? moi?
The unnamed editor also writes, "I'm liking the new stylized look to your art, but think it needs just a tiny bit of polish still. Keep at it, it's coming along great! I'd love to see some clean art."
Does (S)he mean art with cleaner inks, or art that isn't porn? :D I mean, this *was* submitted to *Genus*...
Inks, I see the point. The stuff I sent to them was the last I ever finish-inked with the fountain pen; I'm finishing with the brush exclusively now, and I think it makes a big difference. I just lacked the control before. I think I am improving, though perhaps I'm just deluding myself.
All this makes me wonder how the comic which I have yet to send to my kindly friend The Bizz to letter, 'Catch of the Day' which I've targeted for Genus, is going to be received. My style is what it is, and I prefer the furrier furries...they do swing more toward the critter side, and I'm not planning on altering that.
So I guess I'm just an evil pornographer. Even for an X-rated comic. Still, nifty that they're keeping the pics on file. I'm gonna try again and send 'em some new ones.

Yeah, I might put Briar (feline garg with the tattered ears) in the proverbial frying pan for my next attempt. But I really am hoping on 'Catch of the Day.' I just need to get the script such that the letterer will be able to tell where everything should go. Since I generally letter for myself (or don't, as the case may be :P) my scripts are...how shall we say? indefinite.
Not that there's much script to 'Catch.' It's porn. You know this; I think I may have shown it to you...
