A good question! A lot of salt, like a lot of fat, is not good for parrots, but a very small bit now and again isn't going to hurt them. (keeping in mind that Gav is a very small parrot and gets only a very little bit). I try and limit what he takes from my plate to veggies, starches, and a little lean meat (which is his favorite). He does love hot food. Last night he had some greens, potato and a bit of that neat flatbread you eat Ethiopian food with. :) I wouldn't give him very salty foods, but now and again he does get a taste of something sauteed in oil or butter.
