Well, this Saturday saw me driving to San Francisco for a continuing legal education seminar on suing and defending professionals. The seminar was pretty interesting stuff. However, I have never attempted to park on Market Street on the middle of a sunny saturday, and the City explained why this should be so, very patiently, while I struggled to find parking *in the public garages* for half an hour. 8X

Still. paaaaiiinnn....

There was, wonderfully enough, the most delightful toy and comic shop right next to the building in which my lecture was held. Oh, lead me not into temptation. My best score was a little *plush Anubis*...he's so cute and detailed with the beady little orange eyes!!! So after I stifled an excited, gleeful yip, I snatched him up off the shelf.

Also got a pile of comics! Yay, comic books. They are, with ratings:

Furrlough #139: I rate the quality of a comic shop on whether and how many furry comics they stock. This one gets a B for one issue of Furrlough, maybe a B+ because it was a pretty smll floorspace. The comic itself has this beautiful Baron Engel cover...must remember to tell Baron how much I liked it next time I see him...and some OK interior stories.

Rogue #2: scary how much I severely dislike this comic. Gorgeous art, but everything else...grr. I suppose I'll continue to buy it out of loyalty to the character and because it's kinda like watching a train wreck. I'll go rant about it on Fem-X later.

X-men Unlimited #4: an absolute must-have for Emma fans; the character at her bitchy, poignant best. This is just a gem. I love this comic and this issue is choice.

Jubilee #1: eh. Had to try it, but I've never been one for silly high school dramas. Poor Jubie. Will Marvel never let her grow up? How long has this gal been a teen ager...?

NYX #4: oooh, wish I'd have got on this one from the beginning. Yum! Neat characters and very dark. Dark is good. Damn it, I think I have another comic I really need to follow. Can anyone tell me more about this title?

And this hilarious little meme...

How cool is this?

The upshot is, that the Russians have developed a breed of dog that is 1/4 jackal and the rest Laika husky, to use as superior bomb-sniffing dogs. I'm a little amazed that a jackal/husky would improve on the nose of a bloodhound or other specialized scenting dog, though. Jackals must have great sniffers! Add it to my file of jackal-trivia...

*Jackel pup sticks her nose in the air and sniffsniffsniffs proudly*

The dogs, alas, look pretty much exactly like laikas (the native Russian/Lapp husky, AKC Siberians popularly known and shown in America being exactly that...American)...which isn't a problem, because I like laikas, but still. I'd love to meet one up close. *want a jackal hybrid*!!! I suppose my three wolf hybrids are enough, though.

Thank you, Mooncat, for the link. eee! Jackals! Yip!
