OMG Harp!!!
Mar. 2nd, 2008 10:43 amMany of you know that my sweetie
lythir is a (very good) traditional harper who, through a series of events leading from her divorce, has been sadly without an instrument for almost three years now. About...8 months ago now?...she finally scraped up the means to order the harp she wanted. It is a Cithara Nova from Sandpiper Instruments. It's got custom tuning per her request and is lower-tension than most Celtic harps, good for her because she unfortunately has some medical issues with her wrists and forearms. One can't emphasize how important this is to her; Lucy is a woman who cares very little for most material posessions and this is the single most emotionally valuable thing she owns.
Its incipient arrival means that I soon get to do harp/fiddle/viola duos with her again, which makes me very happy. The other part of this that directly involves me is that she had me design the willow motif currently burned into the pillar. This is the first time my art has ever been made part of a musical instrument. 's a big deal. :)
The luthier just emailed the first pictures of the almost-finished harp..so here she is, under the cut. *hearing* it is gonna be the really cool moment, though. :)
( Beautiful harp! )
