Sand-Dab

Tiny sand-colored flatfish,
little sand-dab, little bit-of-the-sand
given life and eyes and swiftness
tiny fish flittering beneath
the land-dweller's clumsy paw,
hard to see even when you
are looking right at it, even when
you know it is right there.

So, I did not post NaPo installments this weekend, because I spent much of it under the ocean in Monterey...or at least SOME of it under the ocean, and a lot more of it trying to make ill fitting rented equipment work. It is occasionally necessary to struggle a bit for admittance into the holiest of holies; I need, from several practical standpoints, to obtain better equipment (and have made plans to obtain it) but find, honestly, that I don't mind.

Being under the ocean is amazing.

My beloved bit me once,
when I was so unwise
as to break a dogfight
with my arm.
He is no more;
the scar remains,
and may it never fade---
the deeper loves will scar.

If you were the moon,
and I a blade of grass,
Still I would love you
with my
everything.

This was one of those late night, "why can't I sleep? Oh, because there's a poem" poems. I don't always do anything with these, but it felt appropriate to end NaPo this year with something for one of my dearest muses.

NaPoWriMo: exercise finished for another year! This makes three successful Aprils full of poetry. I was maybe not in my best form this time around, but I seem at least consistently able to do it. I am wondering what it might be like to do this in the fall as well as the spring...anyone want to see me try again in October, on the other side of the year?
