Photopost: Earliest Spring

The Earth turned, the weather changed. We will have more hard storms and cold times, I'm sure, but spring has come here even if things haven't started growing yet. Have some pictures.

A visitor came courting (you can tell by his swollen palps). Good luck, fella.

I have the least photogenic cats ever. Trucker really does look like a pile of laundry lint made feline, but Nocturne is a lot cuter in person. They are totally pear-shaped; I decreased their food and they look better now.

I miss Bagheera, but his people came and retrieved him, which is a good thing for a cat. Hope he's happy.

They are still on a sit-stay. Those can (and should) last awhile.

I get funky with the camera angle and Rooster swims. Have fun brushing that when all the coat's grown in, Kyn.

Is Coba.

The light was so pretty, I'm sad it wasn't in focus.

Rooster

has a snout!

Also, he swims.

Luck has expressions. It's a border collie thing.

Is still Coba. The unmatched brown flecks in his irises makes him look a bit mad-eyed; I kinda love it.
Photobucket

Beautiful slimy yellow fungus on rotted wood, I love you.

Dogs.

Yellow emerges. I didn't do anything with the saturation; the photos are, if anything, less vivid than the reality.

This hen was given to me by a guy who was going to give her to the feed store; she's old and so not worth anything. She has been laying for me just fine given the time of year, though. She's a pretty bird and I like her; my chickens are more pets than utility, anyway. There have been no further raccoon losses since I reinforced my coop, yay!

Cute, EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, aloofness, and serial scenic nature cute blend!

(looks out at the snow drifting down.. snow, and nothing but gray and cloudy and snow snow snow snow snow forever, and dreams of spring. Oh, Summer, you say the weather has turned-- if only you knew how false that is some places...)

There's amazing beauty in the snow, too. When I had a sled dog team, I wished so badly to live somewhere snowy and flat. But yeah, it's really nice here. I should take more pics for my snowbound friends...

Very stormy, very cold times these days, but your pictures are an island of warmth within it.

And Coba is a blue eyed ball of bushy floof. StarWing love him. :>

Awww. Yeah, seasons work differently in CA. We still have some terrific storms to come, I'm sure, but it's doing the spring-in-January thing it does almost every year for a couple of weeks, and I am taking advantage as much as I can.

Roster has a stick! Stick! Stick! OMFGSTICK!

Few things make Lionel (who looks much like a less-snouty Rooster) crazy like sticks.

Water, however, is for saving people from, not swimming in.

Rooster is very unusual for collies in that he likes to retrieve in water!

Yay for new pictures!
It's funny, the background photo on my work computer is Coba. I call him the cupcake dog as he's so poofy. It makes me happy to see him. :)

[identity profile] summer-jackel.livejournal.com 2011-01-28 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Awww, that makes me happy! He is a bit of a cupcake dog, isn't he? I usually call him the parfait, but he's certainly a dessert item of a little dog.

Beautiful pictures. Also, I loved your last poem - it made me hopeful for spring and the start of salamander season :)

Thank you! And I'm glad you enjoyed the poem.

I love salamanders; the season is already well under way here. I like to (carefully) turn over bits of bark and look for them, and right now almost all of the likely habitat seems occupied. Right now, there are so many baby ensatinas, and they are so cute! California slenders are the other common ones. I see the giant Pacifics a couple of times a year...there was a magnificent one in my woodpile last spring...and those guys are always a thrill.

[identity profile] redknot.livejournal.com 2011-01-28 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, I would love to see a slender someday. I got to TA a herpetology class last year and helped catch the whole northeastern salamander gang, but when I'm out hiking I mostly see eastern redbacks, spotteds, and sometimes four-toeds. Redbacks are satisfying because they come in so many color morphs, yellow, red, black, white...

[identity profile] summer-jackel.livejournal.com 2011-01-28 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
oooh, all of those are just gorgeous. I googled the redbacks---wow, those really are pretty! The CA slenders appear to come in a couple of subtle color morphs; I see black through dark brown through pretty red ones. Apparently there are a bunch of subspecies, but I'm not able to distinguish them.

Those spotted salamanders are just CUTE.

You have exceptionally fluffy cats AND dogs.

Also, I heartily approve of fungus pictures.
