Derzhava's first day at the beach

The child of hounds grows hourly; when I got her, she was a bit shorter at the wither than the shelties, and now she's a good three inches above them. She's tender and subtle, intent, bold and stubborn---a great little puppy and the seedling of a magnificent dog.
Also, she's a sighthound and already, even though she isn't terribly coordinated about it, she loves to run. So given a break in my busy schedule last week, Kyn and I loaded the entire collected pack in the back of my truck and headed to the beach for a precious first.
We start here:

Zhava knows 'sit' but is a long way from staying put long enough to pose for a camera.

The whole pack takes off.

Rooster and Zhava completely love each other. He has enough of his puppyhood left to be utterly delighted to have another pup who wants to boing and play endlessly. The pack bonding is going well and my dogs all play with her, but with various limitations and boundaries. The two tricolors can just pup at each other.

Cute little exchange here;

It's fascinating to watch what the pack dynamics are doing. When they are all together, Derzhava and Rooster really focus on each other, and the shelties are spending more time bonding and playing with each other than they did pre-puppy. That leaves Bliss and Luck, who, strangely, seem to be developing a closer bond as well---Bliss is attempting to be courtly and impressive, and Luck for his part even occasionally notices him...when there's not a stick in play, anyhow. Then, nothing else in the universe exists.

It's the same old story: border collie chases stick, collie chases border collie, collie gets facefull of teeth when he gets between border collie and stick.

Rooster, if you refrain from getting between Luck and the stick, you might get fewer facefulls of teeth.

I really love this shot.

Bliss likes to herd running dogs.

Running dogs

Coba repeats a mantra: there is no puppy there is no puppy there is not a puppy no puppies exist...

Bliss also likes the puppy.

Zhava meets kelp.

Zhava Approves of This.

Blissface.

Queen Roguey contemplates.

Dawwwgs.

This is my pack as of right now. These four.

Of course, you know what happens to long coated dogs after a beach day...bath city. OH, says Derzhava. Is that how it is. Chin up, little one; you get a bathrobe.
