Jackel returns...

I am back from my journey, and boy, long strange trip, yep. It was a serious and wonderous journey on the physical, psychological and spiritual planes, though also exhausting. Chris, Pryde, Rogue and I had a lot of fun.
We didn't do so well on the tandem stage race, alas, partly because I am not quite as fit (almost...)as I need to be for such an endeavour, partly because we had mechanical issues with the bike, partly from matters completely beyond anyone's control. We didn't even do the last/4th race, although since it was record heat in Eugene, Oregon (bleagh!!!!!!!!!! I am NOT a hot-weather jackal, but one who prefers to cool her paws in a river until it's over...) But we had a whole lot of fun.
Alas, not nearly as many postable pictures came out of this trip as I would have expected, but there are some. It's good to be back and I've missed you.
Other stuff: resuced a baby Stellar's Jay and took her to the bird rescue center..."awwwww corvid" pics forthcoming! Still job hunting, but got some good leads. Reading Laurell K Hamilton's latest, and not only YUM, HOT but this one also has a plot! :D Expect more posts on these topics later.
Pryde and Rogue, on the road again:

I encountered some wonderful tidepools, and their residents, in Oregon.

We stopped at a roadside zoo...I was impressed with some of the enclosures (the bears and cougars had nice space), not so happy with others (no swimming for the poor tigers!!!!) but there were some wonderful animals and you were allowed very close to them. And you could pet some of the babies. :) Here are baby cougars. Whimper. They were curious, wooly in texture and completely wonderful.

At this zoo there were FOXES! I love foxes, and got to pet a couple of them. :) This interesting guy (sleepy in this pic) demonstrates that red foxes bred domesically for some time start to develop aberrant colors often seen in dogs, like this guy's facial blaze, and friendlier personalities...these foxes were surprisingly friendly. All of them were obtained from fur farm bloodlines from the looks of things; only one of the six was a typical red fox in color. They were gorgeous. Well, other than the fact that they were all in the process of blowing their coats and so were kind of moth-eaten. Rogue is looking like that right now, too. :P
