Neat, neat neat news from [livejournal.com profile] shoka: HBO is making George R.R. Martin's 'Song of Ice and Fire' into a TV series!!!! eeeeeeeeeeeee! The excitement!!! I am a sucker for those books.

I hope that they do a decent job on the direwolves...the CG technology exists to do a great job but probably not on their budget. I hope that if it comes to that, they just use real, trained wolves...or even malamutes, heck...instead of using bad animation/props or, worse yet, awful fursuits. I am still not over the *bloody awful* werewolves in Buffy, no I'm not. (Furries out there, you can sympathize. Not only have I seen better werewolves stalking the hallways at cons, I'm not even referring to the super-spiffy professional costumes...)

I need someone to tape this for me when it airs...

On the way home from work, I saw a black shouldered kite hunting in an open field:

It is the second time I have seen her in the same place. It lifted an otherwise rather depressed mood quite a bit; they are beautiful birds, and possibly my favorite raptor. I love the birds of prey and always enjoy seeing them. Redtailed and redshouldered hawks are common here; I also see a fair number of sharp-shinned hawks and American kestrels, and ospreys if you go to the river. Sometimes a golden eagle. But the kites are the least common of Sonoma County's raptors, at least in my experience. I've only seen them a couple of times after living here more than 17 years, and every time is a thrill. They are so slim and graceful, and rather shockingly white. I hope I see this bird a lot more.

So, I will be many of you all at Furcon on Saturday morning! Yay! I can hardly wait!

You want to talk bad werewolves, how about that hyperattenuated chihuahua in the third Harry Potter movie? Rent DOG SOLDIERS if you want some good, scary, physically impressive werewolves.

/barf, cough, gag/
Ohyeah, I was trying to forget about that one. /coughs up a hairball/

I swear, they did a better job in 'American Werewolf in London' and there has been HOW much improvement in effects in the intervening years?

I actually own 'Dog Soldiers'...my friend Greg bought it for me...but I haven't seen it yet.
