OK, [livejournal.com profile] javachickn, I get why you paint on wood all the time now. I loathe the canvas texture and dislike the texture I always get with gesso, but even bristol board buckles a little when you've painted all over it. I may need to look for alternative painting surfaces. Soon.

Also, because LJ is good for sharing cool stuff with your friends, anyone who does not know about Jonathon Coulton should go listen to him now. The music is hilarious, and very good. Go to http://www.jonathancoulton.com/songs and listen to 'Skullcrusher Mountain', 'Code Monkey' and/or "re: your Brains". Many of the others are similarly wonderful. Thank you [livejournal.com profile] madmanatw for that rec!

K, I finish this painting, I hop on the (bike) trainer, I walk.

seriously, go find some masonite boards at a lumber yard. best painting surface ever. it's sooo smooth and slick and wonderful. won't buckle or bend or warp. I hate canvas texture also but i'm learning to deal with it in my bigger works. I still prefer wood over it. plywood is great too, and any kind of scraps i can find... i like finding manmade wood at the beach too.

I really like Coulton's songs! This guy Mike Spiff who works for Adobe and plays Warcraft made music videos for a bunch of Coulton's songs using WoW footage. They're actually really cute, even if one doesn't play WoW.

Skullcrusher Mountain: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_ryNJVreiY
Just As Long As Me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqAzgmVUKi0
Code Monkey: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4Wy7gRGgeA

There was a great one for re: Your Brains using the undead characters, but someone flagged it as a copyright violation and YouTube removed it. (They don't really bother to check if it's allowable use of a song, they just remove if someone complains. Kind of silly, since the Coulton songs are under the Creative Commons license, and Spiff isn't making any money off the videos, which are done just for fun.)

I actually have all of the WoW videos available from youtube in my favorites folder. Go check them out! visit http://www.youtube.com/profile_play_list?user=JorethInnkeeper. That's the list of "playlists" of all the videos I've favorited. You could just click on my favorites for a totally unordered list of all 101 videos I've collected, but that's a bit much if you're looking for anything specific. I think I listed all Coulton's songs under Humor.

OK, I'm a trouble-maker. First I emailed Jonathan Coulton himself to tell him about re: Your Brains getting kicked off:

> Hi, I'm a HUGE fan of yours and of http://www.youtube.com/profile? user=spiffworld
> (Spiffworld) who makes all those WoW videos to your music. I don't know if you're

Subject: Re: Your Brains WoW video banned!

Wow - no, this is the first I'm hearing of it. I'll get in touch with Spiff and find out what's going on. Thanks for the heads up...

Second, I emailed the video maker himself, Spiffworld, who says:
Thanks for the support. :) I complained to YouTube too, but haven't heard back. They have to be complaining about the use of WoW in the video, because it's pretty clearly stated that the music is used under Creative Commons license.

My vidoes are posted on www.metacafe.com and FilePlanet too, so hopefully people can still find them.

Third, you can view all of the WoW/Coulton videos on http://www.metacafe.com/tags/spiffworld/

Fourth, I've downloaded re: Your Brains from metacafe and I'm going to upload it myself on youtube, just because! I also plan to make my own post both here and on myspace and see how many people I can get to write to youtube complaining.

I frequently find myself singing "I Feel Fantastic" and "Skullcrusher Mountain" at work, right before closing when I'm all by myself in the garden center.

Yet another update on the re: Your Brains saga

So, apparently Viacom, in a totally irresponsible and extremely arrogant move, did a very crude search of YouTube content for ANY term related to ANY of their shows and then SPAMMED YOUTUBE WITH DMCA-TAKEDOWN NOTICES, 100,000 to be specific. According to the DMCA, youtube is obligated to take down any content reported as copyright infringement immediately. They are supposed to actually investigate them, but with as huge as youtube is, they don't really have the time or resources. Consequently, THOUSANDS of youtube users had their totally copyright-infringement-free content removed from youtube's servers and these users are now on a list of potential copyright infringers. Mr. Spiff is one of these unfortunates.

Jonathon Coulton is now notified and is keeping up with developments on his website www.jonathancoulton.com and he has included a couple of links to outside news sources who have caught wind of this fiasco. I plan to show my support by visiting the metacafe link above and downloading the video, and re-uploading it to youtube as soon as I have some time.

Hey, I saw this on your VCL archive:
Image: huntress-2.JPEG 2001.06.14
A cheetah huntress, done in pencil

And wondered if you'd be interested in a small commission for a near-remake, with a hamster, not quite so yiffy, very chubby, maybe drawing the bow? Maybe maybe? Its end use would be as an LJ icon, so the original wouldn't need to be very large nor very detailed. :)

Sure. :) Email me at summer.jackel@gmail.com and we can discuss it. I'd charge something like $15.

If you want to read some fairy tales, go to my memories and you'll now have access and they are easy to find. They're drafts, and I've revised The Maiden's Curse a fair bit by now, but the rest I haven't anyway, so uh, the draftiness doesn't matter that much. There's also [livejournal.com profile] sum.

Thank you again for driving.
