Wolf moths!

Oh no, the wolf moths have gotten Fen and Jez!
Seriously, though, in case any of you were suffering the misconception that my dogs are always pretty and noble looking, here are some photos of them in full spring molt. This is when double-coated dogs lose all of that gorgeous winter coat...as ungraciously as they possiby can. Jezibel is the worst. ;D
the ignominy!

Fenris dosen't fare much better:

Jez again:

Maybe if I swim, all of this fur will come out.

And a cute picture of Skeeter jumping for Chris.

Date: 2007-05-07 06:30 pm (UTC)Songbirds love dog fluff for their nests, though. I brushed the collie outside this morning (prior to a HOSE BATH - oh, the trauma!), and the approximate bale and a half of fur I stripped off of him has already been carried away.

Date: 2007-05-08 03:05 pm (UTC)If it's an open body of water, you can't keep them out of it.
If it's a b-a-t-h, you can hardly get them to keep still for it.
Oh the dignity!
(By the way, Summer -- adorable pictures!)

Date: 2007-05-16 06:42 pm (UTC)I have seen little songbirds flit into the kennel to grab tufts of fluff. After that, I started leaving bits of it along the trail. All those bits are gone now. ;) One day I hope to find a bird's nest lined in my pack fluff, but alas, all of those nests are high in the redwoods where I can't see 'em.

Date: 2007-05-07 11:56 pm (UTC)Are your dogs actually part wolf?
If they ARE, do you tell your veterinarian that they are wolf dogs?
And if the other two are yes, then, are you actually able to get veterinary care?
The reason I ask is because we just had some hubub in our animal clinic about a guy with a wolf dog, and we cannot, by law, treat a wolf. but, if somebody says its a Malamute mix or sheperd cross or something, we have no problems. I was just curious what the rules were where you live. :)

Date: 2007-05-16 06:40 pm (UTC)I've never met a vet here in CA who wouldn't vaccinate them, although I don't actually have it on the paperwork that they are hybrids. Rule of thumb: always say it is a malamute (or whatever) mix!
The thing is, if a wolfdog bites someone, the dog has to be put down and dissected to check for rabies even if she is vaccinated, because the vaccines haven't been tested on wolfdogs. (which is BS, because wolves and dogs are the SAME SPECIES genetically).
As far as CA law is concerned, all first generation wolfdogs are wolves (and you need a permit to keep them, which as far as I am concerned makes sense) and all others are dogs.
