Picture preview from the high Sierras

I am back from a week in the Ansel Adams wilderness (in the high Sierras, south of Yosemite).
It was wonderful, one of my favorite backpacking trips. The place is astonishingly beautiful and, well, astonishingly steep, too. We made it over three passes that were between 10,000-11,000 feet, one without the benefit of a trail. It's really amazing up there...lots and lots and LOTS of granite rock. My feet are rather bruised and sore (especially after yesterday's 11+ mile hike out, in which I was actually able to keep up with the very long-legged and fast Chris) and I'm very tired, but happy.
So, it was quite the journey, in more ways than one. Still unpacking, tempted to have another nap. All of my pets are very happy to have me home. And of course, there are pictures. Pictures don't capture it...they really can't...but they're pretty cool. There will be more later, when I've uploaded the whole lot, but for now, here are some from the first few days.
Lower Graveyard Lake. The Graveyard Lakes were the first place we went. This is one of my favorite places to be, ever...so beautiful and remote.

Chris at the upper Graveyard Lake; note the neat pyramid shaped rock!

Pryde rests. The exposure is very harsh up there.

Very swimmable...if only briefly, because these lakes are snowmelt.

Yes, I did a lot of hiking in a skirt this time. Why? Well, I'm weird, but also it did a good job of protecting my legs from sun without making me too hot. One of the smaller upper Graveyard lakes here.

Date: 2007-09-10 09:42 am (UTC)That's some beautifully-rugged country, that is.
I like how the dogs have their own saddlebags. :)
This reminds me of several westerns I've watched recently.

As for westerns...well, one of these days, I really must do a horse camping trip. I need to get a trailer first.
love your 'hello kzinti' icon.
