Ducks and catnip
May. 11th, 2005 08:06 amFirstly, thank you all so much who gave me kind words about Otto. They mean a lot to me. I miss my little chinny even more than I thought I would, and I'm still a little startled when I see that he's not in his cage. But life progresses.
In other pet news, Napoleon the duck is *definitely* a hen. That quack does not lie. ;) I am also about 98% convinced that Josephene is a drake...a baby drake call is harder to tell from a duckling cheep, but I'm pretty sure I hear a drake's hoarse call in there. Which means that Napoleon is a girl, Josephine is a boy. Should I reverse them?? Naaaaaaaaaaaaaah. I promised myself way back that whatever the genders, the names would stick. It amuses me. Who needs gender stereotypes?
Here's a pic of the duckies from a little over a week ago. Napoleon's the bigger one who has more feathers; she's almost entirely feathered now. They're at that ratty, feathering phase in this pic; I have to get newer ones to show you how pretty and smooth-feathered their heads are now. I love ducks.

And a photo of Pryderi, one of my favorite photos I've taken, actually. It really captures who he is.

Tomorrow, me tigerish little cat is a year old...seems hard to believe. No new pics of him, but I will change that soon. I got him a little catnip plant for an early birthday present...he stuck his face in it and sniffed a bit, but nothing spectacular happened. Wow, Pouncival showing restraint, who would have thought?! I planted it in the garden near the garlic chives (also new plantings and I REALLY hope they take) with a careful audience of Pouncival. I will see how long it survives. And if he dosen't want it, I'll make tea.
