Skeeter woke Chris up barking in an unusual way at around five in the morning. When Chris investigated, he found Rhody the chicken dead and this young 'coon treed by the coop:

Pretty little bastard, isn't he?

We debated. Killing the little fella seemed wrong. We tried to catch him with a noose on a stick, to pop him in the cat carrier to take him elsewhere, but he of course got higher in the tree. Finally, he just came down and left. Wonder if he'll be back?

This is the first raccoon we have had in nearly six years living here. Unknown if he is just a straggler looking for a free lunch, too young and clueless to be scared by the scent of our five dogs, or if we have more raccoons in Meeker now. We're going to try locking up the fowl in their shelter coop for the night and see what happens.

Yesterday was...vexing, albiet amusing in retrospect. The brakes in my car were failing, so Chris fixed them, which involved me driving to Santa Rosa in his '57 bug to get parts. I LOVE driving the '57, but was out of touch with how much gas was in it (no gas gage) and ran out on Occidental road. A kind stranger took me to Sebastopol, but neither the gas station, Rite Aid or Safeway had gas cans, so I was stuck. I called Chris, who told me to go to Milk and Honey (the local pagan/lesbian/alt bookstore) to hang out and relax until he came and got me. (There are reasons that I love Chris so much). So I got to chat with the rather amazing Alyx (1/3 of Copper Wimmin, one of the best bands ever, and new owner of the store) 'til me boy came 'n got me. Then we retrieved the bug before a nice officer was about to have it towed.

Also, I meant to do an entry before now about last weekend and seeing Copper Wimmin play *three* shows and how *amazingly incredible* they were. I actually got Chris, more crowd-aversive than I am if you believe that, to go to the Harmony fair (wonders never cease). We rode to Santa Rosa on the tandem. :D CW did two shows, but my favorite was the one at Wild Jane's the night before...longer set, and at the fiar they had to sing over 'dueling bands' on the next stage over. If you ended up on this journal after the last time I plugged them here, shoo, go, listen:

I can't reccomend the music enough. Ownership of vintage Volkswagens, however, is more of a mixed bag.

This morning, my brakes should be back together. Bloody cars.

More pics behind the cut, mostly of my gorgeous Pouncival Ti cat, who has hit a year and is really showing his copper and his spots:
