Weekend Trip
May. 16th, 2007 10:31 amSo last weekend, Chris raced the Tour of the Unknown Coast up in Humboldt county. Alas, he scratched at mile 90 due to pain in his knees (he came in 2nd last year) but, having seen the course, I don't understand how ANYONE can ride it on a bicycle and not DIE.
Knees notwithstanding, we had a really wonderful time. After the race, we camped in the Humboldt Redwoods State Park, which is wonderful. On the way home, I had a nice swim in the Eel River, which I badly needed. I love the Eel, more than any other river, and its water does a good job of calming and healing me when I need it. It was a little cold, and the swimming hole had a very strong current which I had fun with...hop in current, let it wash you downstream fast, struggle out of current, repeat process...
Now, observant readers of this journal will note that I LIVE in a redwood forest. It has amused me for years that I drive north to vacation...in another redwood forest. Still. The character of old growth redwoods is vastly different, and I love it in Humboldt county. I may move there some day.

Weekend Trip photo post #2
May. 16th, 2007 10:45 amI love tidepools. Some people birdwatch, I tidepool-watch...well, I birdwatch too, but you get the idea. I LOVE poking my nose into the interchange zone between land and sea and the fascinating glimpse of the aquatic world you can find there.
So, while Chris suffered on a bike for five hours, Pryde, Rogue and I made haste to the beach between Ferndale and Petrolia (both of which are the most lovely little towns full of awesome Victorian archetecture, which is another thing that makes me a happy puppy). I wasn't expecting tidepools, just a beach to run around on...but I was thrilled to find them. It wasn't even low tide, midtide on the high side I'd say, but it was low enough to see some amazing things. Which I photographed at length and am now sharing with you. Oh, and pictures of my pretty furry ones, too.
This post is deeply not dialup friendly.

Morphicon (IMPORTANT question)
May. 16th, 2007 02:27 pmOk, so I leave on a Jet plane for Ohio tomorrow! Morphicon, here I come! I am excited!
So I will have a dealer's table at this event. My question to you artists out there is, have you ever flown with prisma pens? Do they survive the flight or will the pressure changes mess them up?
I would like to have them, to do conbadges and such, but not at the risk of losing 'em in transit. They are several hundred dollars' worth of pens. :P
