Hey, thanks for the great training vocab suggestions! Right now, my favorite contenders for Coba's 'tight heel' command are "Stalk Me!" and "Velcro!", but I am accepting, nay, actively encouraging challengers.
I also am pretty certain that I'm changing "you're done' to "go sniff", because it's easier to say, cuter and similar to "go run", their 'you're off leash and can do whatever you want' signal. (If you missed yesterday's scintillating entry, "go sniff" releases the dog from command but lets him know he's still leashed and needs to be polite). I'm sure you guys can come up with something more sly or clever than that. "Release" is the traditional term, btw.
OK, so since I'm supposed to reward for performing the desired behavior, here are some pet photos from the last few days.

Oh, and I haven't even mentioned how the lad's first days of school have been. It's been great for him. Coba is a grave, quiet, reserved little dog, at least in unfamiliar situations and when being asked to perform a task. (At other times he's completely silly, of course, as these photos show pretty well). He's at that stage of his development when the breed's natural sensitivity can be shaped through proper socialization and care into that collie/sheltie personality we like. They will either develop polite, calm distance with strangers or the frantic, barky timidity some shelties have if they aren't raised properly.
I've already seen a dramatic increase in Coba's confidence around being greeted and touched by other people and dogs, and he's obviously enjoying the class. He has a beautiful "focus" and already moves out well, like the showdogs from whom he was produced. In the last 2 weeks, he experienced a big growth spurt; now I'm seeing a jump in emotional maturity too. It'so cool. He is still pretty young for this kind of effort, and he gets tired and unfocused after an hour of solid training, but he's doing really well.
He also loves to roll around in the mud and get filthy on our walks.

The creek finally filled with this storm. Coba was a little surprised to find he had to cross here now.

No surprise to Pryde, though.

The wolf in the rushes. Hey, that would be a fantastic title for a reel.

You didn't think they were clean and brushed out all the time, right? (Guess who also got a bath today).

Jezebel: most wonderfullest lap wolf ever. I love Jez.

Jez gets a puppy kiss!

There is a vulture in this tree.

Back home, the cats go "training huh??"

I only posed this a little tiny bit by adding one plush octopus. Any of you who have met Tiger know in the depths of your souls that he cannot be posed.

Basts Pouncival Titanium Tiger rests adorably with prized plush octopodes Blue-spot and Okkie.

Sweet little Gavin. He plucked a bunch of his chest this morning; I was not happy. It's definitely seasonal and probably coincides with the beginning of molt. Back to the vet with us.

The lovebirds. Well not literally, but you know what I mean...

Rogue and Tiger chill by the fire. That's all.
