This came from several. I am pedaling away (hour 2; I'm shooting for 5) so go ahead and ask me stuff; it will give me a welcome distraction. I'm resisting the temptation to re-write this, but:

The problem with Livejournal is that we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. Hence, I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Then post this in your LJ (if you want to) and find out what people don’t know about you.

This evening, I am going to a big concert with lots of loud, exciting music. This is really not the kind of thing, as a quiet introvert with a severe aversion to crowds, that I often do; I am, however, looking forward because big shows can be fun. My hair is freshly dyed purple, and after the ride, I should be the appropriate mix of mellow and fierce to appreciate this event. (Which is the Harmony festival, for the interested, and will feature Cake, the Dead Kennedies and, apparently, techno of various stripes until 3 am).

Yesterday, I visited [livejournal.com profile] kynekh_amagire, [livejournal.com profile] selasphorus and [livejournal.com profile] eclipsegryph for the purposes of good company and a bad film that was clearly necessary to see; Mega Shark vs. Giant Octoups. The title really tells you all you need to know. I'll just add that its script would be darkly brilliant if it was written by a ten year old (like the meme!) and was notable for astonishingly skeezy unrequited-threesome-love between the young couple and her middle-aged mentor. The kind of thing I usually howl "you're poly! Go for it!" at the screen, only this time the thought is kind of eeeeeeew.

The real reason to visit, though, was to corrupt their very souls with the insidious cute that is Shetland Housefoxes. It's all part of a diabolical master plan. On their part, Rogue and Coba had a lovely outing with Woe-Collie Luck, although Rogue is taking her new role as alpha female amongst my dogs...I'm not even kidding you, Jez wouldn't do it, sheltie is queen...perhaps a little too seriously. Rogue, you don't need to herd him in his own house.

Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

I'm jealous. I want to roll around on the floor in a herding herd of house-foxes.

It's pretty fun.

You've definitely corrupted the two of them to "Hey, wouldn't it be nice to have a sheltie?" I'm afraid that I lack various genes that make someone a dog person and therefore considers things of that sort, but I definitely appreciated your shelties and their manners and their delicateness. And if things happened that there was a sheltie living in my house, I would not object to that turn of events. :)

Oooh...Cake is performing? Kitty earprick, consideration...

Oh good...I'm glad that if I DID corrupt them, it at least won't be over your objection. Maybe your third cat could balance it. ;D

Cake at 8 or 8:30, I think. A friend who has seen them says that it is good.

Poor Luck. He looks all coarse and unrefined to me now that I've seen him in the company of your dainty little house-foxes. Also, I'm threatening to get him a puppy, speaking of corruption.

Well...think about how serious you are? If so, that would push me into four-five people who want a puppy from me, which means I might consider a litter. See it's this thing. I can't bear getting rid of any when I have pups, and I really really like being able to get occasional updates on what I've bred (still get some updates on Jez's sibs).

My plan is to corrupt as many friends as possible into wanting housefoxes, so I can keep mine close by, as it were. ;D

Kidding aside? Well, my process is in the beginning of the "how could I make this work" stage, but I am thinking seriously about a little housefox of my own. Obviously lots of things (including several more TinyShepCons with Luck and the shelties: I'm totally thrilled that he actually tried to play with Coba, but one afternoon is only one afternoon) need to happen before I can say yea or nay with any degree of assurance, but the following things are true: 1. the perfect number of dogs (for me) is two, 2. Luck's at the perfect age for a puppy -- old enough to be a sobering (rather than mischief-enabling) influence on a young canine, but not too old to romp.

Totally understand the "wanting to keep 'em close" impulse, and I'm truly flattered that you'd think of mine as a worthy home for a hypothetical pup of yours. I can tell you that IF Coba finishes his championship and IF you decide to have a litter and IF there's an agreeable bitch-pup (especially if she gets Rogue's dark sable, or, heaven help us, tri) and IF all parties involved are agreeable, I'll be tempted beyond all rationality.

...OH GOD PUPPY. I am clearly insane. Factor that in, as well.

It's been many years, but at one time, my heart belong to a house-fox. I don't think they're really good "Florida" dogs, though, with all that hair. Or maybe the hair actually helps. I dunno.

I'm glad that a little sheltie touched your life. They're lovely dogs.

Dogs are actually very adaptable to different climates, as long as they have had time to acclimate. As long as he stayed hydrated, a double-coated dog would probably do fine in tropical weather...the Shetland climate is actually very wet, it's just, unlike Fla., also cold. In hot, arid climates, the double coat actually helps the dog maintain temperature; given sufficient shade and water, a husky, for instance, is less likely to suffer heatstroke than something short haired, like a dachshund.

The main mistake people make with double coated dogs in hot weather is to shave them. It's never a good idea; it reduces the dog's natural ability to thermoregulate and sometimes irreparably damages the coat.

puppy puppy puppy! ahahha, we are a corrupting influence, my wee foxies and I...

I will email you about this some time soon, with more specifics. Pup or no pup, I would love to get Luck and microsheeperdogs together for future playtime. I'm glad they got along. <3 Luck!
