My new-to-me Macbook came to me with a minor cosmetic blemish on the bezel, near the screen, and two internal problems---the screensaver and desktop couldn't be set, and it had problems waking from sleep. I procrastinated getting it repaired for months, but finally took it in. The fellow at the mac store spent a lot of time attempting to fix the control panel issue, sans success, and they checked it in. When they called me in to fetch it, it turned out that they'd fixed the bezel but hadn't actually even looked at the other problems.

Did I mention that the Mac store is an inconvenient place for me to get to? Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

So, they call me back yesterday...and the notes said no problem was found. Counting to ten quietly in my head (note that the store is always a crowded, reverberating seethe of people which triggers ill-temper in me immediately even without demonstrations of profound dumbness) I demonstrated to the 'genius' at hand that the problem did, in fact, still exist. Without snarling at him. It was hard. I'm glad I didn't, though, because he not only didn't deserve my ire, he actually fixed the problem in 10 minutes and the dratted thing works now. What a nice guy.

I have a very mild soft spot remaining for "Mac geniuses" since I dated one once, though I doubt Josh has any lingering fondness for me. Still, I'm loyal and the ghost of association dies hard. I remain deeply, deeply pissed at Mac itself, though, for the fact that my new ipod will not speak to my old desktop unless I upgrade the entire OS---which is not only a bad idea but might not even be possible. And, I'll add, other than being mildly slow, the ol' emac works just fine, thanks! At least 50% of my desire for this toy was to play with it while riding in front of the desktop. How hard would it be to make all Mac gadgets work on all versions of OSX?

snarl grrr snarlyface growl. OK, time for dance class. Have another cute picture of my dogs.

Cute! Although the "dog" in the lower right-hand corner seems to be missing a couple of legs...*grin*

And why isn't that stack of books all chewed up, yet?????

hehehehe...the fact that the rght hand corner "dog" still exists is a testament to how well it's made (a plug for the 'migrators' plush is in order here, dog people; that toy is about 4 1/2 years old) and to the weakness of a sheltie's weak little jaws. That is Rogue's oldest, favorite toy, and most of the time she'll get it when I tell her to "get your duck!"

Shelties are pathetic chewers. But guard your shoelaces. They are one of Rogue's lasting sins.

As for the books, well, Chaos is rapidly learning that the only things he's allowed to chew are what is given to him. I told him 'leave it' with a number of books and he hasn't bothered them; collies learn scarily fast. He is a pup, though, and I'm sure he'll do his share of destroying before he matures.

I should mention that I also spray things that he really seems to want...cords, the potted palm in my house and the baby tears plants in the back yard...with taste and scent deterrants. They work well. I haven't sprayed the books, though,

I'm a very weird mutant of a person. I like cats AND dogs a great deal (though my lifestyle is more cat-friendly) and I like both PCs AND Macs (though my budget and software needs are mostly PC-centered).

I just don't get into the Holy Wars that everyone else sometimes seems to like to get into.

And the more I see of your menagerie, the more I look forward to meeting them all.

That's interesting. I've been a die-hard PC user for many years, although Windows Vista has made me decidedly more Mac-friendly. Macs are rather cost-prohibitive, though, so I remain a PC user out of financial concerns (although I *really* hate Vista).

But all of my Mac friends try to convert me to using a Mac (which they really don't have to do anymore, all I need is the funds, which I don't have and won't have for the forseeable future) by telling me how much more compatible Mac is with other Mac stuff.

One of the biggest problems I had with Vista is that it refused to talk to a whole bunch of my peripherials. I had to buy new ones in most cases, although several months later, new drivers were released for some of the others.

So I'm very interested to hear that not all Mac products work together seamlessly as I've been told. Or, at least, they work about as well as PC - which is if you buy everything at the same time it all works great, but mixing older with newer and there are some things that just won't talk to each other.

Of course, that adds to the expense, since I'd have to buy all new peripherials again, plus certain dongles just to get any new Mac I might buy to do all the stuff my PC currently does. Since the comparable machine by itself is, minimum, 60% more expensive in a Mac, this doesn't bode well for me converting in practice, although I might be a convert in theory.

Compared to PCs, Macs just seem so much easier and intuitive to me, but then I've always had them. My emac is, to be fair, something like 6 years old now, although, as I mentioned, it still works just fine. IMHO, the lifespan of a computer should be somewhere similar to that of a car or any other bit of large machinery. The speed of computer obsolescence makes me very, very annoyed.

My previous ipod worked fine with it. It's this new one...which, coincidentally, will not charge on any of the devices that worked seamlessly with my last one. Grrrrrrr...their older ipod was better!

apple vs pc

my aversion to apple was due to how an apple saleman conned my family into getting an Apple IIc, just when the Macs were coming out, and the non-mac apples were becoming obsolete. I've been a pc person since that first apple, but Vista does make me look at macs now with a "hmmmm" --- I'll be buying a new laptop soon, so maybe will do a mac. Laptop wise I want Size, and ability to run Second Life. Tho... wait some things can't be doen on macs tho, like IMVU (no loss) but I'd wait to check my dragon cave site to see if I can do that or not.

now if Apple had 20 inch or bigger laptop, it would seal the deal... I find my 17 inch toshiba satellite too small after my desktop got it's 24 plus size screen. Yes I know a bigger laptop is a monster to lug around, I don't care! like them BIG!!! yes I'm a size queen when it comes to screens... heh heh heh... I want a 20 inch at least, sigh... that can play SL smoothly.

puppy fluff!

I was at the beach this morning (went kayacking with my mom) and we saw not only a baby golden retreiver (10 weeks old, all legs and puppy breath!) but two sheltie pups (8 months). My dog envy kicked into overdrive. :P

I am glad your group is so healthy and happy.

Puppy fluff is pretty awesome. Sheltie puppies are so sweet and fluffy and tiny!

Kayacking is a lot of fun. :)

Yeah, kayacking is great. I am only just learning really, but since we have two 'yacks, should you ever make it down this way we could go out paddling.... :)

Puppy breath is almost as good as puppy fluff.
