Got this from [livejournal.com profile] kulan

*Are you a furry?
I self-identify that way, sure, but it doesn't have the same weight as, say, identifying as gay, an environmentalist, or an artist in general.

*If you have a Spouse/SO - Is he/she a furry too?
No, and no. My ex was amused by it but didn't really get it. EDIT: Ok, I realize that I am giving short shrift to my current sweeties here, but then defining these relationships is problematic---I have kind of a complex love life. I'd count them as not furry but gets it/is tolerant x2, very furry but doesn't rise to the level of SO and very furry but I don't even know what to call it but SO wouldn't be one of the labels. Who needs labels anyway?

*How long have you been in the community?
Since my late teens, but like many an artist of fur, I was drawing anthro-animals and fantasy subjects much, much younger. I am 33 now, so call it...17 years? eeek.

*How did you find furry?
As a fandom? The YARF! fanzine, which had tables and parties at BayCon, way back when.

*What's your reason for furry (what interested you to get into the community)?
I've always been very interested in talking animals, anthro-animals, animal cartoons, shapeshifting/transformations and the way human psychology intersects and interacts with the non-human inhabitants of our planet in general.

*What's Furry to you?
Any artwork, thought or creation that explores the themes above.

*If someone found out you're a furry and asked you about it how would you respond?
I'd answer any questions about it that they had, as long as they were respectful, of course.

*What are your favorite aspects of our community?
Definitely the art. Giving my art a context, a wider audience and a whole community of other artists interested in similar things is so inspiring and fun.

*Do you use any furry terms? (i.e. yiff, paws, murr?)
Sometimes, usually jokingly. What I do do, and haven't been able to completely break myself of, is using various yips, purrs, growls and squeaks as part of my daily vocalization. I think I started when I was in grade school, interacting with my pets, and in animal-role-play type games with my (few, weird) friends, but it isn't a conscious affectation now, though I've reduced the habit quite a lot.

*What do you wish furry was NOT associated with?
Fandom has gotten so big that I don't even know what-all it's associated with. I do wish it hadn't managed to get quite such an odd rep amongst non-furries and non-fannish types but honestly, I don't really care all that much.

*How strongly do you feel about someone bashing the community as a whole?
I don't really care. FIAGH; I have other things to be angsty and dramatic over. But if someone came to me respectfully and asked why I was involved with the fandom when fandom is associated with X, I'd be perfectly willing to have a conversation about it.

*How strongly do you feel about anyone bashing you yourself for your interest based on the media's aspect of what furry is?
See above.

*We all know furries have alot of sexual aspects in this fandom, What's your opinion on it?
I'm all for it. It is human nature to be highly sexual, and IMHO little good ever came of repressing that. Besides, I like having an audience for my porn and being all sexy is fun. Of course, I could wish for certain people in this and other fandoms and the world in general to be more cluefull and socialized about their cheerfully open sexuality, but that's not about furry.

Personal

*What is/are your fursona(s)?
I've had Jackel in one form or another since I was either late 11 or early 12, though she had a hiatus as my fursona for a couple of years. She was a leopard then, although I always drew her with a canine face and ears and a brush tail. These days it seems clear to me that she's 3/4 black backed jackal and 1/4 leopard. In her feral form, she's just a jackal.

*Do you have any fetishes that pertain to the fandom?
Well, I've integrated my fetishes into my art where applicable. The only furry-specific actual fetish (discounting those like macro and vore that are only possible in art) I'm thinking of right now is that for fursuits, and wearing a fursuit is, while fun, one of the things least likely to put me in a sexual headspace. Sorry.

*If you could magically morph into your fursona would you?
The feral/nonmorph/just a plain ol jackal, absolutely. The anthro, I don't know if it would be as neat IRL as in art.

*Do you believe you have a spirit animal?
That question lacks specificity. However, some animals have symbolic and spiritual importance to me, and jackals would obviously be one of them.

*What other fanbases/groups are you a part of?
I used to be a lot more into sci-fi fandom, and was very active in 'Gargoyles' fandom for awhile. I still love it, but now furry is my main foray into organized geek.

*Anthro/Feral, Therian or Kemonomimi (Not a furry, just a human with animal ears and a tail)?
Anthro/feral, please

*Are you a fursuiter?
kinda sorta

If yes, how many do you own?
I have a very retired husky, the head of a Jackel suit, and almost a head of Danielle, to be worn with my Victorian fancies.

If No, do you ever plan on being a suiter?

*How many of your friends are furry?
um...quite a few of them. A couple that are close.

*How many pets do you own, if any?
hahaha, didn't I post the laundry list a while back? At present, Jackelpack consists of 4 canines, 4 felines, 2 parrots, 3 horses, a ball python snakey, a tank of tropical fish, 6 chickens, 3 kinky dux and one cute little bunny rabbit. There may be mice soon, and I'll add another bun as soon as I can find one of the right breed.

*Aside from furry what other interests do you have?
That's way too big of a question, so I am skipping it. If you've been following my journal long you probably know some of them.

*Are you confident enough in yourself to say that you're a fur, no matter what the media says?
Of course. I don't much care about the media and I don't think we've gotten THAT bad a rap.

Meetups

*Do you attend any cons?
I try to make FC every year, and I was GoH at Morphicon once. That was a blast.

If no, would you attend any cons?
If yes, which cons have you been to?
already answered.

*Do you go to local meetups(bowling, public outings...etc)?
No, but I don't think we have such a group in Sonoma County and I am not by nature social for the sake of being social until I am already established friends with a given person.

*Have you ever attended a furry party?
yep, going back to those BayCon parties, which were fun!
-If no, would you attend one?

Online

*Have you ever met up with a fur you talked to online?
...um...lots of them. Mostly at cons.

*What furry websites do you attend?
FA, with some DA and VCL.

*What non furry websites do you frequent?
again with the too many to name. This one comes to mind. Gmail, various science blogs, animal blogs, webcomics, etc.

*Has the fandom done anything for you that you're thankful for? Has it taught you anything or brought you anything you treasure greatly?
I do treasure it, and it's been part of my life for so long that I'd be quite bereft without it. I've met a lot of really fantastic people through it. But it still isn't, y'know, the cornerstone of my life or anything.

...and was very active in 'Gargoyles' fandom for awhile

Dude, did I know this? That's awesome.

I was pretty certain that you did know this, although maybe not! If you go over to the Gargoyles Fan Archives and look up 'Jackel' I have at least 2 novels worth of fanfic. 'Changing Season' actually IS a novel, I think; I word-counted it once.

They were well received at the time. I haven't looked at any of them for a couple of years, and have no idea if they're dreck. Still, they entertained some people and gave me a much needed creative outlet during a very stressful time in my life, so I leave them up.

*flail* Oh my God, I read those when I was a little baby fan first finding my way in the cold unfriendly internets! Right before writing my own probably-of-dubious-quality stories. Man. Those were the days.

And I think you did tell me once and I noted that and checked out your username and then promptly forgot. Still! OMG!

(When are they putting out part 2 of Season 2 on DVD, I ask you? I never got to see the end of Hunter's Moon and I'm still bitter!)

While googling to figure out what "macro" and "vore" mean, I found this, apparently unintentional, gem:
"But to be macro goes to many dementions besides being tall."

oh geez. I didn't actually mean to subject anyone to this stuff who didn't already know what it was. sorry! I guess this is how furries got the weird rep. ;)

And, well, y'know, macro and vore aren't even naturally furry-specific. I think it's just that furries are more open to going to nonstandard sexual places with their art that it comes across as a furry thing. But I've definitely come across both in non-fur contexts.

No prob... (Didn't see this comment before now... just discovered LJ had an expired email address for me)...

Anyway, the "Macro and Vore" webcomic was good for several LOL's. And it's fun learning new and surprising ways that people be human, especially when they're being harmless and cute.

So, please don't apologize! This (new ideas and ways of expressing them) is the kind of thing I read your blog for!

Unrelated comment - sorry!
