Ok, so this is just one of those spring days that makes me want to just sing, or roll over, put my paws into the air, and be submissive to the universe. So I ended up spending most of it on line job searching, but I did take the dogs on a very long walk into the woods. Everything is greening and the air was warm, but the streams are still full from recent rains, and the world is vibrant and full of moisture and alive. The songbirds are coming back to Camp Meeker (which means that Magic is now wearing her belled collar all the time again.) I saw my first pair of mourning doves this morning, all in fresh plumage and lovely.

Jez and Fen are in full-blown moult, and trail little tufts of wolf fluff wherever they go. Jezibel in particular does *not* shed with grace; she looks rather like a teenager who is trying really hard to look like a punk rocker, with tufts sticking out at odd angles, and the new and old coat all clashing colors.

I washed the dogs, the clothes and the car. Meeker winters are damp and dank, and I fear that what with all the bar study I've completely neglected my beautiful vehicle...a season's worth of dirt and algae had it looking rather like a crusty old VW bus. Now it looks like a very shiny, freshly restored and painted crusty old VW bus. ;) Still, all the chrome's shiny, and the paint...which is only a couple shades brighter yellow than the background of this page...is again blindingly obvious. Not that it ever isn't.

So creative output: yes, I have been. Check out my vcl site

for a couple new ones (all clean, sorry ;). Mostly watercolor sketches, way looser than my usual more controlled style...but then, they are sketches, I can be more controlled with watercolors too. The Ethiopian wolf/phoenix characters are really interesting me right now, I might be doing a lot more with them.

'Catch of the Day' is no longer just something I'm playing with, it is something that will be actually finished...I have inked all 11 pages of the comic, and final-inked 9 pages. Now I get to figure out what to do with 11 pages of 'jackal porn.' but I have my ideas. Still...the worst is yet to come...lettering. I hate lettering comics. I suspect that I hate doing so because I don't really know how. At this point, I'm going with the tutorial on blambot.com, which is very good, but requires a far greater facility with photoshop and computer art manipulation generally than I am comfortable with. So time for the ol' learning curve to escalate, yes? I've begun to realize how much I *don't* know about photoshop.

I will post a few panels of it here as I feel comfortable doing so, and as I get material *finish*-finished. (and no, none of you have seen this, because I have not scanned it or shared it with anyone yet.) If anyone has good advise on the subject of lettering comics or getting 'em photo-ready, please share. please? I'm desperate.

Ok, another dozen resumes sent off. I think I'm going to get on my bike and ride down to the Russian River to see if I can spot any waterfowl and generally enjoy the day. Time to get off this damn computer.

hey, just noticed you had a livejournal. :)

I just wanted to mention that I liked the watercolors that you just uploaded.

also, photoshop can be deceptively simple when it comes to doing things. What is it exactly you are having troubles with? I may be able to shed some light on it..

anyways, just saying "hi" and keep up the spiffy artstuff

It's a new Livejournal, and thanks!!! Glad the watercolors are working.

Hey, you aren't that random, I think I know you...didn't we do an art trade once?

Aaaah, photoshop...I think I figured out how to include text, now what I'm attempting to do is put baloons around the text and have the baloons overlap whatever part of the image is behind them. I think I just need to play with it. Photoshop is formiable, and I've really only had it less than a month. I hear artists who've had it for *years* complaining about it.

*sigh*...

I think many moons ago you dropped me an email... so yeah, its not that random ;) good to see that you are still around after all this time and that the bar didn't kill you.

and keep playing with photoshop, its all personal technique.. there is 1000 different ways to do one thing. all about playing with it and figure out what works best with you. I've been using photoshop since version 4, and I find new stuff each time I use it.
