'neath the cut you'll find a selection of (mostly) my favorite music. My taste is a little weird, so have fun with that and consider yourself warned. Meme by way of [livejournal.com profile] kynekh_amagire.

Listening to all of these songs and putting this together was surprisingly thought-provoking; an examination of my life through favored music scavenged up on YouTube.

01 - your favorite song

here's another tasty version:

02 - your least favorite song

Lesbians: our sexuality does not exist to be cute or to titillate boys. I don't object when it does either of those things, but this song and what it appears to be saying irritates me to significant degrees.

03 - a song that makes you happy

04 - a song that makes you sad

I also absolutely love this band and how it does this song. I've heard them do it live a couple of times, and wow.

05 - a song that reminds you of someone

06 - a song that reminds of you of somewhere

I was trying to find one of their other songs, but there aren't too many of them on available on-line. They were a local a capella trio who no longer sing together; Alyx runs a fun little shop in Sebastopol called 'Milk and Honey' now. They did some beautiful things.

07 - a song that reminds you of a certain event

I can also dance to it.

08 - a song that you know all the words to

I'll take "fish," Miss Peg.

09 - a song that you can dance to

10 - a song that makes you fall asleep
If I'm listening to music, I'm not sleeping. But I, uh, often sing this to my birds when I cover them for the night.

11 - a song from your favorite band
Let me throw some more Boingo at you.

and some more.

12 - a song from a band you hate
I don't tend to listen to music I dislike enough to create hatred, so can't think of anything here.

13 - a song that is a guilty pleasure
Oh, just hush. It's fun.

14 - a song that no one would expect you to love
Given what I've posted so far, what are your expectations regarding my musical taste? How about this one; I love it, but it never fails to put me in a strange, pensive, thoughtful mood.

oh! And for contrast, a Sondheim tribute with ponies.

15 - a song that describes you

It's a runner-up for #1.

16 - a song that you used to love but now hate
I've been trying to think of one without a lot of luck. My musical tastes tend to be consistent; sometimes get tired of something because I've listened to it a lot, but that's not the same as hate. I still like this song a lot, but since my ex loves this band, it has associations.

17 - a song that you hear often on the radio
I almost never listen to the radio---between the ads, the failure to identify each song after it plays, and the inability to pause it when necessary, I just get keyed up and angry when I listen to it, so I try to avoid it. I think I've heard this on the radio, though:

18 - a song that you wish you heard on the radio
No radio for me; see above. But have some Coulton:

19 - a song from your favorite album

Mind you, this isn't actually the version that's on the album---but I found a live version and am posting that instead, because it's cool.

This album is also wonderful.

20 - a song that you listen to when you’re angry

This band is so good-natured and snarly. I don't like to stay angry; a little humor lets me hone and manage my fury when it's needed. And girl, you know my bite is so much better than my bark.

21 - a song that you listen to when you’re happy
Because I wouldn't want to listen to it while I was sad, right? I also listen to it then, however. Also: OMG Peggy Lee live!

22 - a song that you listen to when you’re sad

I have to be really sad, though. If I was a scholar and could handle a pen...

24 - a song that you want to play at your funeral
Oh, all of them, other than that one I hate. But because I couldn't find anyplace else to put it:

25 - a song that makes you laugh

In a completely different way, here's this---The Peter, Paul and Mary cover (which I couldn't find on Youtube, but it's on their children's album) is one of my very favorite songs. I didn't know that Judy Collins had done it with Muppets.

26 - a song that you can play on an instrument

I ornament it differently and I miss being able to play with a guitarist, but when I'm playing well, I can rock 'Red Haired Boy' on the fiddle.

27 - a song you wish you could play
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=px6i3OL7o-4
I can play O'Carolan's concerto, technically, but not _well_.

28 - a song from your childhood

29 - a song that makes you feel guilty
I think I admitted to my guilty pleasure (and it truly is, have no doubt) but guilt isn't something I often feel, particularly associated with music. I think that this song addresses complex emotions and reminds me of guilt, sometimes.

30 - your favorite song at this time last year
#1 has been my favorite pretty much since I heard it, and that was a long time ago; it's not going anywhere. But I also love this, and the video is gorgeous all by itself:

Love Boingo, and Peggy lee, and Suzanne Vega, never got into peter paul and Mary was way more a Joan Baez lover.
And Lady Gaga grows on ya.
I was reading an article about how creative and talented Katy Perry was, I still don't get it.
Never thought about how that song was more titalating to boys that women, frankly I thought it was stupid.
Suzanne Vega has much more Nuance to her songs and it could go either way.

Here is, believe it or not, an awesome version of "I Kissed a Girl." See, it's sung by a gay man... which totally inverts the meaning of the lyrics.

This is the version I heard first, and I just went WOW! halfway through the song when I realized what the original must have been, and how this artist turned trash into awesome.

Oh, my goodness. That is just wonderful. I never thought anything could be redeemed from that awful song, but he succeeded. Kudos to Mr. Lider, and thank you for the link!
