Bliss is everyone's favorite couch.

A scene from the last dog show:

It was a pretty, 'only at a dog show' kind of moment; this fellow in a suit rode by on a folding bike, with his beautifully groomed Irish setter.

So it's definitely a requirement for all mammals you own to be fluffy, then?

Hee, fluffy is a plus! With the dogs, I'll admit to loving the texture of a well groomed double coat, and I find the process of caring for and petting their coats therapeutic and relaxing. That said, there are a couple of smooth-coated breeds that I would be very interested in keeping, pretty much all of them sighthounds. I really admire and would love to have sloughis, azawakh and Ibizans, and some day I intend to obtain a saluki (a feathered one, but the hair on a saluki is much less even than Zhava's and does little to warm the dog). In addition to being even rarer than Borzois, though, all of those breeds are from really hot, dry parts of the world, and I live where it's (relatively) cold and wet. Since most of my favorite breeds hail from places even colder and wetter than my redwood forest home, I'm trying to keep with them. A shivering, well sweatered sloughi curled up in front of the fire would be adorable, though.

I have a strong preference for shorthaired cats, but I also take what cats the universe throws me. Trucker and Cyril are fluffbeasts, Magic has a normal short cat pelt, and Tiger, the Bengal, has this lovely, fine, sparkling coat that is beautiful and tropical and does absolutely nothing to keep him warm. Tiger loves the fireplace in December.

How funny is it that I can barely tell the difference between Roo and Zhava from the front? I always have to check the ears. Ah, dolichocephalic dogs.

Adorable. :)

Ah, I do miss rural life...Kicking back in front of a fire shared with the dogs.
There are few things more relaxing, in my opinion.

Also, found this video and thought of you. :)
Border collies herding ducks...Lots of ducks...

Snuggling with the dogs by the fire is one of the nicest things about my life.

That duck herding video is just precious! Thanks for sharing. Adorable. Those collies are on the job.

Your lovely animals make me want to turn to a life of crime. I could steal them all... borzoi and collie look like they are meant to be together and your Sheltie... he is what love and stories are made of. All the beauty and POOF should be illegal.

aahaha, see this is why I love that he is OUTLAWS Cobalt Gambit (CD!!). It suggests that faint edge of danger a good sheltie ought to have: that this little beast is just too cute and good to be legal.

Rooster and Zhava make a really handsome brace. They get looks and comments even at dog shows.
