Movin' my bloody horse...

Well, Tristan has been moved to his summer pasture. This should make us all happy, because I really like having him there and he seems to thrive on it, too. Besides, the beast really wore out his welcome at the stable I was keeping him at with his cribbing...an awful habit, for those of you who don't know, that involves a horse latching onto a piece of wood and chewing, leaning back while sucking air down into his lungs. It's bad for the horse and incredibly destructive to the premises. So I don't blame the person who was keeping him for being pissy about it, but things were getting pretty tense.
So, the only hitch? Tristan didn't want to trailer.
He's never been skittish about trailering. I mean, he was raced, moved LOTS in his youth, and has always just jumped into a trailer with a shrug for me. But whether it was a new trailer he didn't know, my mistake of trying to trailer him blanketed at first, the fact it was drizzling, or whether he was distracted by a dog or a shadow or whatever...he didn't wanna budge. And at one point, he lunged backwards, out of the trailer, reared to his full height (it was impressive, let me tell you, Tristan is NOT a small horse)and then fell over completely on his back. I think it was the scariest, worst thing I have ever seen happen to a horse. My poor boy. He skinned his knee, his withers and the dock of his tail, but thank all dieties watching he seems not to have taken major damage.
About an hour after this, he finally got in the stupid trailer and away we go.
Tristan is a pain in the ass. He needs far more care than my Arabians. the cribbing is a serious vice, and mostly because of it he dosen't eat as much as he should or process it as well as he should, so keeping his weight up is a constant chore. There are times I seriously consider finding him new people. But then I look into his eyes or get on his back and I remember why I bother. He is one of the kindest and most responsive animals I've ever known. Riding him is bliss. He has all of the spirit, nobility and flowing gaits thoroughbreds are known for without the crazy, hyper, unreasonable emotions that they are also known for. Sometimes I forget he's a TB.
Until he pulls something like last night.
Ah, well, he's in a good place for the next few months at least, gives me a chance to figure out what the heck I am going to DO with him this winter.
