Saw this on the Google+ page of someone who friended me although I have no idea who she is. There are several people here who should love this, and I enjoyed both the poem and the animation.

I want to go backpacking in the Philippines now. Giant potentially rat-eating pitchers. Bliss.

Appropos of nothing, Adopt one today! and Adopt one today! and Adopt one today! and Adopt one today! are chewing on your bandwidth. I hope that Adopt one today! hatches into a male, since I have females of its species already.

Warnings for a bit of surgical ickiness in the photo with this article, but it's not too bad.

Dude! This guy inhaled a fir tree seed, apparently, and it grew. In his lungs. No, really. Still, I would so rather have that than the cancer. Repost from [livejournal.com profile] skorzy

Nature is resourceful stuff. Anything this weird may well be a hoax (I couldn't find it on Snopes, but...) I really hope it isn't though, b/c of the weirdly awesome factor.

EDIT: Snopes hasn't come out either way whether it's a hoax, but apparently it does occasionally happen that someone inhales plant material.

EDIT: another article, with cute picture. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090227/ap_on_fe_st/odd_octopus_flood

Not about octopodes, but this is also really cool: a guy was randomly digging a fish pond in his back yard and found a pile of Clovis-age tools. Dude. I thought it was pretty neat when I found a Listerine bottle from the turn of the last century while digging under my house.

So maybe this technology scares me just a little, but...wow, how cool is that?!?

Yip!

Check out This really awesome article with video of a big-fin squid. Link via [livejournal.com profile] spacebabie. SO neat. And, of course, adorable.
