Nature is resourceful stuff. Anything this weird may well be a hoax (I couldn't find it on Snopes, but...) I really hope it isn't though, b/c of the weirdly awesome factor.
EDIT: Snopes hasn't come out either way whether it's a hoax, but apparently it does occasionally happen that someone inhales plant material.

Not about octopodes, but this is also really cool: a guy was randomly digging a fish pond in his back yard and found a pile of Clovis-age tools. Dude. I thought it was pretty neat when I found a Listerine bottle from the turn of the last century while digging under my house.
