Not in the most pleasant headspace (ssnnaarrrrrrrrllllllllllll, hackle, bitey Jackel), although for the positive, I've moved a PILE of things around in my bedroom. The emac is now installed in here, and mine. (yay!) A few more bookshelves and shelves for the plushies (heh, I think my 3 Anubis plushies get their own shelf/the cuddliest altar in the house) and I'll be all ready to nest. In the interim, the place still looks like a war zone (and the parrots are all wtf???) but hey, it will be better. One can hope.

here's an interesting little meme kinda thing.

The Everything Test

There are many different types of tests on the internet today. Personality tests, purity tests, stereotype tests, political tests. But now, there is one test to rule them all.

Traditionally, online tests would ask certain questions about your musical tastes or clothing for a stereotype, your experiences for a purity test, or deep questions for a personality test. We're turning that upside down - all the questions affect all the results, and we've got some innovative results too! Enjoy :-)

Personality
You are more emotional than logical, more concerned about others than concerned about self, more atheist than religious, more loner than dependent, more workaholic than lazy, more rebel than traditional, more artistic mind than engineering mind, more idealist than cynical, more leader than follower, and more introverted than extroverted.

As for specific personality traits, you are innovative (93%), romantic (86%), intellectual (78%), religious (73%).

Stereotypes
Old Geezer100%
Prep69%
College Student64%

Life Experience
Sex73%
Substances35%
Travel47%

Politics
Your political views would best be described as Socialist, whom you agree with around 100% of the time.
  Socioeconomic
Your attitude toward life best associates you with Upper Class. You make more than 0% of those who have taken this test, and 100% less than the U.S. average.

If your life was a movie, it would be rated R.
By the way, your hottness rank is 69%, hotter than 80% of other test takers.

...I think I may have screwed up on the economic questions, though I am kinda poor right now. I mislike the term 'religious' applied to me at all (spiritual yes please, religious Hell No) though that's too fine a distinction to ask from a silly LJ meme. But, Old Geezer???? gee, Thaaaaaanks. (I'm only 31! And always grrring at Chris when he bemoans his age at 41).
Least I'm a hot old geezer.

And the ranty bit: this thing asks you whether you're in relationship with a guy or with a girl, exclusively. There are other options, but "I'm poly" or "one of each, thanks" isn't one of them. Normally I wouldn't care...I suppose it is a minority relationship style, if not in my circle of friends, and easy to forget about including if you're not used to it. But the test then goes on to ask you questions about things like three-way encounters and how many people have you been in bed with at once, etc. Things that come up when you're poly, right? So what, the assumption is that a person might sleep around in interesting configurations, but not have a committed relationship with more than one person at any given time? I don't like where that assumption takes us, see.

OK, but so I'm really snarly in general right now, and snarking at the internets is unlikely to help. While I am, though (humor me, I let myself be snarky so rarely) may I mention that poly (while very much my preferred love style at this point) can be a ^%$#@!!! pain in the ass???

So's monogamy, though.

heh. snarlyface. I'm gonna go walk my dogs now.

Heh. Same reason I gave up on the quiz, actually.

All the people in long-term polyamorous relationships I know personally have parrots. Which is interesting, considering the parrot (Polly, ha ha) is a symbol for poly in some circles. What the heck is up with that?

Anwyay, enjoy the walk. You should come hang out with us again! When mood and schedule allows, of course. I have all sorts of weird movies to share with you.

hee! "poly Polly!"
Lucy brought that up early in our relationship. 'You do know parrots are the symbol of poly, right...?'

I would LOVE to hang out with you some more. This month is crazy booked for me. Can we get together after solstice and watch neat films and talk about birds and such?

Yes, indeed! It might require some fiddling with my work schedule, but they'll usually give me days off when I want them ("Yay, we don't have to pay her!") with enough advance warning. I shall take this comment as tacit permission to pester you via e-mail in a couple of weeks.

Fair warning: I might, at some point, make you watch Immortel.

yes! Please consider this tacit permission, nay encouragement! Wanna see you! Fridays and Sundays are best for me, just not the next couple. :)

Immortel looks really interesting, actually.

I was cool with the poly thing on the quiz up until I got to "Have you ever cheated on your current partner?"

I was stumped, and finally answered "no". I kinda wish there'd been an option for "No, I've just fucked lots of other women."

yeah, I was a little 'what do I say...?' on that one too. I also settled for no. After all, I have never cheated on any of my partners. I've at least let them know there was a possibilty and made sure they were cool before sleeping with anyone else. Can't cheat with consent, right?

To be fair, there have been a couple incidents of "Hey, guess what wound up happening last night?" But yeah, always with the understanding that it was a possibility.

It's funny. Not that many years ago, I would have run screaming from the idea of a poly friend. "Eeeeew!" But these days? It isn't any kind of a big deal to me, just another quirk (and I have plenty of those myself).

The twists and turns of life can be funny things, but you're precious to me now, Jackel. :>

aww, thank you! I really appreciate both your affection and open-mindedness. (and I'll scan your sketchie soon as my scanner is hooked to the moved computer).

Poly does take a mite getting used to, I suppose, but the awww cute factor is very much present.

Well, you aren't hard to be affectionate toward, and I'm as always a hopeless snugglebum anyway.

Besides, if it doesn't hurt anyone (or better still, makes people feel nice AND doesn't hurt anyone) who am I to judge?

Though I reserve the privilege of snarking at lime soap and cephalopod ink. ^.^

The number of people who truly understand what a poly relationship entails can probably be counted on one hand. Even those that claim to be poly, often have views about it that are entirely incorrect. Perhaps you, or someone else, could write a 'Polyamory For Dummies'

oh, man, writing a poly book would be hard...because everyone's configuration is just so DIFFERENT, y'know? Any way you cut it, though, poly really is a lot of hard work. And complicated!!!!! Figuring out what it entails is like a daily journey.

"The Ethical Slut" is a good book to start with, though. It dosen't all sit easy for me but it has some neat bits.

The real problem is that people confuse sex with love and then compound it with the belief that you can only love one person at a time. It's a determination to simplify emotions by dividing people into strangers, friends and lovers and saying that there is only X amount of emotion to go around and that each one has a value (e.g. True Love = 10 points, Friend = 5 points). It's a way of viewing things that is not only unwieldy and insane but causes insanity, and frankly, misery. To use a poor metaphor, it is the equivalent of saying you can only own one jacket for your entire life, regardless of the weather, event or location.

From: [identity profile] summer-jackel.livejournal.com
yeah, that's pretty much it. Loving one person, even completely and entirely, does not negate or lessen the same or 'equal' emotion for another, at least for me. Love just isn't mutually exclusive and, well, the energies and emotions and neurochemicals that bond us to pack are complicated things.

Now, making logistics work and various levels of energy balance, on the other hand...poly tends to make that a lot more difficult, in an exponential growth kind of way.
